Political corruption! Power mongering!! Sex scandal!!! Can this be Washington D.C. 2011? Try ancient Rome during the reign of Emperor Nero. The seductive Poppea craves to be empress and the only thing in her way is Nero’s wife. One of the first public operas ever written, Monteverdi’s 1642 ravishing musical masterpiece reminds us that the more things change, the more they stay the same!
